There are few boats more versatile than this well-designed 20’2” center console.  With a 7’6” beam, she offers significant interior space and carrying capacity, but she still performs well with an economical 90-hp engine and trailers easily behind a mid-sized tow vehicle.  Note in her performance profile how her round chine, flat planing surface, and keel give her efficient performance at a wide range of useful speeds in the ‘teens and twenties, with enough top-end power for tubing and skiing.  Her proud, flared bow and sharp forefoot allow her to cleave choppy seas and shoulder them aside easily.

The 21 Pilot reinvents the runabout combining classic styling with modern amenities. Standard features include v-berth with cushions, a standard outboard engine bracket and your choice of the two cockpit layouts.

In response to customer and dealer suggestions, Eastern developed the roomy 22 Center Console design from our successful 248 Downeast-style hull with 8’6” beam. The 22 hull combines a sharp bow entry with a soft chine, a relatively flat bottom aft, and a keel for good tracking on course. A molded bottom strake offers lift while knocking down spray. The hull shape provides a soft, smooth, efficient ride at speeds in the ‘teens and twenties with only a 115-hp outboard.

The 22 Sisu is legendary among Downeast hulls. Sisu is a Finnish word that means stamina, fortitude, and “guts”. This little beauty is aptly named.  Originally drawn by Royal Lowell in the 1970s, her basic design is arguably the most seaworthy ever for a small powerboat.  Modern composite materials plus a couple of design tweaks have made her even better.  Recessed chines damp spray and add dynamic lift to her round chines as she accelerates, while an outboard bracket bolted to her transom frees up an outrageous amount of space in her cockpit.

Eastern’s 248 Center Console offers the kind of powerful hull you’ll see around town docks along the Maine coast. They’re “island boats,” fit for hauling people, groceries, and other necessities to island cottages in all weather. With her 8-foot-6-inch beam and transom bracket, she offers comfortable seating with classic striped cushions in front of the console, in a “V-berth” abaft her proud bow, and astern across her full transom. A folding bow dodger protects people sitting forward, while a hard T-top protects the skipper and companion.  The 37-inch-wide console holds a changing room with portable toilet and adult-sized headroom.

Like our powerful 248 hull but need more permanent shelter than a T-top and dodger can provide?  The 248 Explorer delivers a classically-styled hard cabin and pilothouse with sliding windows.  As her name suggests, she’s just right for day-long and weekend coastal expeditions.  In line with modern composite construction techniques, the house is built of a strong foam core sandwiched between layers of fiberglass.  Mounted on the solid fiberglass 248 hull, the light structure above the gunwales enhances the hull’s inherent stability. The cabin offers a V-berth (filler panel with cushion optional), head (portable with pumpout standard, permanent with macerator and holding tank optional), and hanging locker. The swiveling helm and companion seats mount on storage boxes, but the Explorer can substitute a settee to port with a countertop/sink/refrigerator unit just aft for food preparation.

Eastern’s 248 Islander adds a touch of elegance for family day-cruising, luncheons, and sunset cruises.  She’d make a comfortable but able race committee boat too.   Her pilothouse includes a companion seat opposite the helm, with a galley/mate unit just aft.  It includes a sink, a refrigerator, trash storage, and an angled double seat facing into the cockpit.  With the 150-hp outboard mounted on a bracket, the closed transom gets a full-width, cushioned bench seat.  Both cockpit seats gain elegant, plush, custom striped upholstery, and a teak-trimmed cockpit table mounts on a pedestal between them.

Based on Eastern’s able, rugged 248 hull, this Tournament model is all about fishing–efficiently, effectively, safely, and above all, comfortably and happily. The 248 Tournament shares the hull, cabin, and pilothouse with the 248 Islander, including its cabin forward with V-berth, head (portable with pump out standard) and hanging locker. In the pilothouse opposite the helm is an L-shaped lounge. The back of the lounge forms a multi-drawer tackle center with cutting board and sink on top.  A 30-plus-gallon transom live well with toe-rail beneath replaces the Islander’s aft bench seat. An optional transom door provides access to fight fish around the bracket and engine, in appropriate seas. The aft edge of the cabin top holds a six-rod rocket launcher, and four gunwale holders secure more. There’s space in the cabin to mount rod racks overhead for lockable storage.  A pump-out fish box in the cockpit sole takes care of the catch.

EASTERN27ISLANDER322020.jpg

eastern 27’ islander

Our 27 Islander is roomy enough for day-tripping a large family or a comfortable week’s cruising for a couple.  Behind her gracefully-flared bow, she carries a 10′3” beam on a hard-chine hull that rises easily onto plane with twin 150-hp outboards or a single 250-300 mounted on a bracket. This model retains the dry, soft-riding characteristics at useful speeds for which Eastern boats are known. Belowdecks, a forward V-berth converts to a settee with table or a spacious double bunk with the table lowered.  An enclosed head provides a Vacu-flush toilet and a shower. Opposite to starboard is a hanging locker.

Behind her powerful bow, the 27 Tournament carries a 10′3” beam on a hard-chine hull that runs well with twin 150-hp outboards or a single 250-300 mounted on a bracket. Fishing is her specialty, making her dry, soft ride valuable for offshore runs.  She’s stable on a drift and efficient at a wide range of speeds from the low ‘teens to the mid-twenties, so her skipper can dial her in to varying conditions.  Belowdecks, the 27 Tournament offers a forward V-berth with space for overhead rod racks.  An enclosed head provides a Vacu-flush toilet. A mid-berth under the helm deck presents additional sleeping capacity or capacious storage.

The new 30’ boast an aggressive 22 deg bottom and a spacious 11’ beam. By moving the Twin Power package to a standard engine bracket the cabin opens up to an inviting Island berth forward, separate head and shower stall, and a large, airy mid-cabin. In the cockpit the Capt has the flexibility to choose between port-side companion seat with settee or an L-shape lounge. Cruising or Fishing; Eastern’s new Coastal 30’ offers the performance and build flexibility to allow you to answer the call of the Sea.
